My name is Belinda Wallace, and this is my Herobox Story.
One day, my mom was listening to her favorite DJ, Mara Davis, on Dave Fm. She heard about Herobox from Mara Davis. My mom and I decided to get involved as a summer project and collect some items to donate for Herobox. Soon, I made up a flyer of what I was doing and it was posted on my neighborhood website so people could find out about Herobox. On 4th of July my friends and I went to my neighborhood pool for a few hours and set up a stand asking people to donate, and people started donating things for Herobox. I also called lots of people from my neighborhood phonebook, and asked them to donate items. My friend Jodie and I wrote a “script” so we would remember what to say when we were leaving messages or talking to people on the phone. I received a big variety of things for the soldiers from many people. My friends helped me make more phone calls to the people in my neighborhood during July, and after that, we had even more donations. Overall, I collected more than 400 items for Herobox. Here are some of the things we delivered: beef jerky, undershirts, socks, Hamburger Helper, powerbars, batteries, hand sanitizer, CD’s, books and magazines, babywipes, baseball caps, and lots more.
My mom and I went to HeroBox and the people were very polite and told me all about HeroBox. I met Ryan Housely who is the founder, and John (who reminded me of Jack Black). I’m glad I helped this organization and my mom and I want to do more soon. I hope all of the soldiers like their items that will be sent to them by Herobox.
